Privacy policy

Purr & Prose is a typewriter that runs in your browser. The short version: what you type stays on your device, and the only time anything leaves it is when you ask for it to be emailed — and then it goes to the one address you typed, and nowhere else.

What you write

Your pages live in the browser tab you are typing in. There is no Purr & Prose server and no account: nothing you write is uploaded, stored or read by us. Closing the tab ends it, unless you save it or send it.

Google user data

Purr & Prose only touches your Google account if you choose email the pages. Google then asks you to let Purr & Prose send email on your behalf. This section sets out exactly what that involves.

What Google user data we access

One permission, gmail.send, which lets the app send an email from your Gmail account. It is the narrowest permission Gmail offers, and Purr & Prose asks for no other. With it, Google gives the app an access token, and that token is the only Google user data Purr & Prose ever holds. Purr & Prose does not access:

  • the content of your email, your inbox, drafts or any other message;
  • your contacts, calendar or files;
  • your name, profile or the list of your Google accounts.

How we use Google user data

The access token is used for one thing only: sending the document you wrote, as a .docx attachment, from your own Gmail account to the address you typed in the to field. One message, one recipient, and only when you press send. It is never used to send anything you did not ask for, for advertising, for profiling, or to train any AI or machine-learning model, and no person reads it.

Sharing, transfer and disclosure of Google user data

We do not share, transfer, sell or disclose Google user data to anyone. The access token and your message go only to Google, through the Gmail API, because that is how the email is sent; the message then reaches the recipient you chose, as any email does. Nothing passes through a server of ours, and no other company or service receives any of it.

Purr & Prose's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How we protect Google user data

  • Everything runs in your browser. The message and access token go directly from your browser to Google, encrypted with HTTPS (TLS).
  • The access token is kept only in the memory of the open tab. It is never written to disk, cookies, local storage or logs, and never sent to us.
  • Purr & Prose has no server, database or account system, so there is no store of Google user data that could be leaked or breached.
  • Asking only for gmail.send means that even the token cannot be used to read your mail.

Retention and deletion of Google user data

  • The access token is kept for as long as Google allows (about an hour) so a second send does not ask again. It is deleted when it expires, when Google rejects it, or when you close the tab, whichever comes first.
  • We keep no copy of your documents, messages or recipients. The email you sent stays in your own Gmail Sent folder, where you can delete it like any other email.
  • You can withdraw the permission at any time from your Google account's third-party connections. Purr & Prose then cannot send anything until you allow it again.

Because we store no Google user data, there is nothing for us to delete on request. If you have a question about it, use the contact address below.

What your browser remembers

Three small things are kept in your browser's local storage, on your device, so you do not have to set them again: the last address you sent to, which room style you picked, and which language. They are never sent anywhere. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.

What we do not do

No cookies of our own, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no accounts. The sign-in window is Google's, and is covered by Google's privacy policy. Like any website, the service that hosts these files may keep ordinary request logs, such as IP addresses, for running and securing it.

Changes

If what Purr & Prose does with your data changes, this page will change with it, and the date at the top will say when.
